As beautiful as the Alexandrina Magnolia tree’s blooms are, it is a great addition to any landscape even when it’s not in season. This is because it maintains an attractive mounded shape all year round!
Magnolia Alexandrina is mostly noted moderate-sized stature, slightly fragrant purple-pink flowers with white interiors and year round interest. It is a moderately fast growing, deciduous shrub/mid-sized tree that will typically rise to be over 20 to 25 feet tall and equally as wide.
Pink with white goblet shaped flowers are lightly fragrant and may periodically repeat bloom in midsummer. Flowers bloom in late winter to early spring and medium green leaves turn yellow in fall. The blooms can turn from pink to purple flowers as temperatures vary.
Alexandrina Magnolia Tree Care
This Alexandrina saucer magnolia tree has a moderate to fast growth rate but stays short as a shrub or small tree. Relatively resistant to pests and diseases at any time of year. The Alexandrina Japanese Magnolia is not susceptible to flower drop during early spring frosts.
The Alexandrina Magnolia flowering tree is best grown in moist, organically rich, acidic soil and in full sun. This is a spring blooming magnolia tree that is less apt to suffer frost damage in spring. Prefers well drained soil and can tolerate partial shade in some planting locations.
The fragrant flowers are best seen as a street tree or shrub or in a front yard for passerby’s to enjoy. Young trees will still produce enough flowers to turn heads! This tree is a member of the star magnolia family. Don’t get it confused with southern magnolias or Magnolia grandiflora that are evergreen magnolias.
This tree is deciduous and will lose its leaves over winter. They make excellent shade trees and can enhance any landscape!
