Perfect Plants Arapaho Crape Myrtle Tree

This flowering tree was developed by the National Arboretum for increased powdery mildew resistance and drought tolerance. It features deep cherry red summer blooms and maroon-tinged foliage plus offers a brilliant fall color starting when the temperatures drop.

The Arapaho tree has an upright, spreading habit with beautiful, showy bark — great as a street tree where it can be seen. Can get up to 20 feet tall and 10 feet wide- while growing 2-3 feet a year. The Arapaho crape myrtle grow rate is very fast!

Plant in groups as mass plantings, as a hedge, or use as a small roadside accent tree or shrub. Prune for shape and structure after dark pink flowers appear. The Arapaho Myrtle grows best in full sun but will tolerate some shade, and is adaptable to a variety of soil conditions, and is drought resistant once established. Grow across the United States in USDA zones 7-9.

Follow a regular watering schedule during the first growing season to establish a deep, extensive root system. Watering can be reduced after establishment and it will become very tolerant to drought. A slow release fertilizer at the top of the root ball once per year in early spring will help with flowering.
