This beautifully alluring Hosta Patriot Shrub variety boasts deep green leaves with eccentric, streaky white margins, instantly setting itself apart from any other plant in your landscape!

The Patriot hosta plant is one of the few hostas that is truly tolerant to the heat. It’s a tough plant with relatively large dark green leaves that emerge with pure white edges that seem to almost shine in the shade. Hosta patriot’s flowers are lavender and appear on tall spikes in mid to late summer.

The Patriot Hosta’s foliage remains crisp and variegated, even in the heat and humidity of southern summers!  Perfect for shade gardens, shady areas, and planting sites with little direct sunlight.

It was voted ‘hosta of the year‘ by the American Hosta Growers in 1997 and continues to be one of our favorite plants.

HOSTA PATRIOT PLANT CARE

Grows best in full shade to part shade. Can handle minor morning sun though. A planting spot with afternoon shade would be best as it is only slightly sun tolerant. Great as a small shrub in any landscape as it only grows between 1-3 feet tall and wide at mature size. The patriot hosta growth rate is slow to average.

Grow this cold hardy hosta variety across the United States in USDA plant hardiness zones 4-9. Grows best in moist, well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. Plant in early spring so it has the whole growing season to establish a strong root system.

Requires a regular watering schedule and an annual application of slow release fertilizer to keep leaf coloration at its finest. Slugs and snails are common pests of hosta plants. Use slug bait or insecticide to get rid of them.

The pale lavender flowers of the herbaceous perennial will light up any landscape needing a shade loving plant.
